Moving to us, and leaving us

What happens to your website, your donors and your Gift Aid records on the way in, and what happens to all of it if you ever decide to go.

Where charity systems let people down

Drawn from sector research and public reviews. Each answer is something the platform already does.

Gift Aid left unclaimed

HMRC-commissioned research puts it at about £560m a year, much of it lost to incomplete declarations.

Source: Plinth, on HMRC research

Donors declare as they give. Every declaration is checked for a full name, a house number and a valid postcode, anything missing is listed for you to fix, and the claim comes out as HMRC’s own schedule.

Systems that do not talk to each other

The donation platform, the database and the website each hold part of the picture, joined up by spreadsheet.

The gift, the supporter’s record and your website are one system. A donation is on the donor’s record the moment it is made, with nothing to export or import.

Donations that start and never finish

Every extra step, and every jump to another site, loses people between Donate and done.

The gift finishes on your own domain, with Apple Pay and Google Pay. Anyone who stops halfway gets one reminder email, written by you.

Tips donors did not mean to give

Donors complain that extra amounts were added to their gift without it being made clear.

Source: JustGiving reviews, Trustpilot

Asking donors to cover costs is off unless you switch it on. If you do, you set the percentage, it shows as its own line the donor can change or remove, and it goes to you.

Zakat mixed with general funds

It may only go where Islamic law allows, and trustees need to be able to show that it did.

Zakat can only be given to appeals you have marked as eligible, and it is kept apart from everything else. A public Zakat report shows donors where it went.

Reconciling the platform against the payments

Two sets of figures that should agree, checked by hand at month end.

Each month is reconciled against your Stripe or PayPal export to the penny, listing anything that appears on only one side or differs in amount.

Locked out of your own website

The domain sits in the account of a volunteer or developer who has since moved on.

The domain and every account are registered to the charity from the first day. The platform is licensed to you for as long as you have a plan with us, and if we ever stop supporting it, the code comes to you too.

No budget and nobody technical

Squeezed finances are the biggest barrier charities name to getting digital right.

Every task in the admin has a guide with a button that takes you to the right screen. Support comes from a developer who can change the software, not a ticket desk. On Growth and Partner we run the technical side of your fundraising with you.

Switching, without the part that usually goes wrong

Most charities we speak to are not looking for their first donation platform. They already have one, plus a website somebody built two years ago, plus a database. The objection is never really the price — it is the fear of losing donor history, or of the donate button going dark for a week. So we take that risk off you.

01

Your site

New, or we rebuild the one you have

If you paid an agency eighteen months ago, you are not throwing it away. On Growth and Partner we rebuild your design on the platform, page for page. On the platform tier, your content and pages move onto one of our three designs, set up in your brand.

02

Your data

Donors and history come with you

Donors, giving history, Gift Aid declarations and regular givers, migrated by us — not handed to you as a spreadsheet to re-key.

03

Your income

Nothing goes dark

Your current donation page keeps running until you say cut over. There is no window where a supporter lands on an error.

04

Your terms

No contact limits, ever

No email telling you your bill has doubled because you passed 2,500 supporters. Grow as fast as you can; the price is the price.

What happens to your data, and what happens if you leave.

Trustees ask this before they ask about features, and the honest answers are short. Every claim below is something the platform does, not something we intend to do.

Leaving

You take it yourself, without asking us

A button in your own admin produces one zip: every area as a CSV, your settings, and a written guide to running the platform somewhere else. Your manager does it, not us, and every export is logged. There is no request to raise and no notice period to serve.

Payments

Card numbers never reach us

Card details are entered directly into Stripe's own fields. They do not pass through our forms, our servers or our database at any point, which is what keeps the compliance burden with Stripe rather than with your charity.

Tracking

Nothing is tracked on the payment step

Analytics and ad tags never run on the page where card details are entered, and everywhere else they run only after a supporter agrees. There is a test in the codebase that fails if that stops being true.

Retention

Personal data that expires on its own

Abandoned checkouts are deleted after 90 days, analytics after 13 months, notification logs after 90 days. Nobody has to remember to do it, and the privacy policy is checked against what the code actually does.

Your data is yours. Always.

Your data, domain and accounts are yours from day one. The platform itself is licensed to your charity for as long as you have a plan with us: a month's notice is all it takes to leave, with a full export and no exit fee. If we ever stop trading, or stop supporting the platform, you get the code too.

Yours

Your data

Donors, gifts, Gift Aid declarations, content and files: all yours, exportable in full at any time, free.

01

Yours

Your domain and accounts

Your domain, Stripe account, email and analytics are registered to your charity, not to us.

02

Leaving

No exit fee

One month's notice is all it takes. You take a full export and a handover pack, and we help you move your domain and payments.

03

If we stop

Escrow for the code

If we ever stop trading, or stop supporting the platform, you receive the code for your own use. No right to resell it, but it is never left stranded.

04

See a whole charity running on it.

Bring how you take donations today and what your trustees keep asking for. We will tell you honestly whether it is worth it for a charity your size, including when it is not.
